The term REALTOR® is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate licensee who is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of REALTORS® (NAR) and as such subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics. . The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® is comprised of REALTORS® who are involved in residential and/or commercial real estate as brokers, salespeople, property managers, appraisers, counselors and others engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry. In addition, by virtue of their membership in the local association (MCAR), they are automatically members of the State and National Associations of REALTORS®, and are privy to the rights and benefits thereof.
REALTORS® enjoy an elevated status in the real estate community. While a real estate agent is licensed by their state to do business, a REALTOR® has raised the bar and taken the additional steps to advance their professional development and pledge themselves to ethical business practices.
