- New Agent
Once satisfying all requirements of the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission, the agent is deemed “licensed”, and is issued a physical license document authorizing the practice of real estate in the state of Pennsylvania. The agent “hangs” his/her license with an office of his/her choosing. If the office is a REALTOR® office, that is, holds active membership with a local REALTOR® Association, the designated REALTOR® of that office (typically the Broker or Office Manager) is subject to a dues assessment for that licensee. This obligation may be satisfied in one of two ways.
- The broker submits payment of a dues assessment for the non-member licensee. The non-member may practice real estate affiliated with that office, however, he/she is not privy to any of the benefits of REALTOR® Association membership, to include, but not limited to – any use of the term REALTOR® (strictly prohibited)
OR
- The agent submits application for REALTOR® membership in the local Association...
- Submitting the application
- Obtain an application for membership from the Association
- Complete the application in full and submit to the Association for processing. Application must be accompanied by
- Copy of license issued by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission
- Full payment of dues and application fee in accordance with applicable dues schedule
- Internal Administration
- Agent is entered into MCAR database as “REALTOR® pending” – at this point the agent is extended limited services to include communication pieces, event registration opportunities, and electronic lockbox system availability.
- Agent is provided with notice of the next New Member Orientation class and the opportunity for registration in that class. NOTE: New Member Orientation is a requirement of membership for any applicant who has (a) not attended new member orientation; or (b) been out of the business for a period of five years or more, that must be satisfied within 6 months of the receipt of the completed application.
- Within sixty to ninety days, the applicants name and office affiliation is (1) Noticed to the General Membership, with opportunity for comment; and (2) presented to the MCAR Board of Directors for approval pending satisfactory completion of all membership requirements.
- Once that process is completed, the applicant is registered for the appropriate New Member Orientation class.
- Upon attendance and completion of the New Member Orientation class, the agent is officially indoctrinated into membership and is provided with a certificate of completion and REALTOR® pin. At this point, the MCAR database is modified accordingly and the agent is now entitled to all benefits of membership, to include the proper use of the term REALTOR®.
NOTE: Brokers are extended an invitation and encouraged to attend the induction of any new member from his/her office.
- Agent Transfer
If an agent has transferred to an office from another office not holding membership in MCAR (held membership in another local board/association), the designated REALTOR® of that office (typically the Broker or Office Manager) is subject to a dues assessment for that new licensee.
